GulmargGulmarg: The Meadows of Flowers

The hill station of Gulmarg is located in the Baramulla district of Kashmir. Gulmarg literally means the meadows of flowers. Testifying the sobriquet of Heaven for Kashmir, Gulmarg Tourism also boasts of the highest golf course in the world. The slopes of Gulmarg make it Asia's only resort for skiing. A haunt for the Kings in summer, Gulmarg's history dates back to the era of Kings like Jahangir and Yousuf Shah Chak. In the early 20th century Maharaja Palace was built by King Hari Singh which has eventually become a tourist attraction in Gulmarg.

Trip to Gulmarg is patterned with picturesque sights. Khilanmarg here is one of them with a place perfect for skiing in winters and to enjoy the views of the Kashmir Valley. Similarly Alpather Lake is a scenic alpine lake that remains frozen until late June. It is a triangular shaped charming lake located at a height of 4,511 metres. Summer is an ideal time to visit the lake. Also one must not forget to pay homage to the famous shrine of Baba Reshi, a Muslim saint in Gulmarg. A cable car ride takes one to Kongdori, to enjoy the arresting sights of meadows from the top. The place has eateries both for non-vegetarians and vegetarian. However Rogan Josh-a traditional non-vegetarian dish is a must-try when visiting Gulmarg. Travel to Gulmarg is like tasting a slice of heaven.
